Παραδείγματα χρήσης EPIGYNUM σε μια πρόταση

  • The female has several unusual morphological features, including a large number of ventral macrosetae on legs I and II, prominent sparse rows of elongate setae on the dorsum, a multi-cusped retromarginal tooth, and an epigynum, superficially this looks like a euophryine, but is quite different structurally.
  • If she was receptive the male then see-sawed his front legs over her several times and then mounted and twisted her abdomen before inserting one palp into her epigynum, repeating with a second palp on the other side.
  • In some entelegyne families, such as araneids, the epigynum includes a projection that covers or partially covers the copulatory openings.
  • Like in the related genus Nephilengys, the much smaller males mutilate and sever their pedipalps, which are often found stuck in the epigynum or female genital openings.
  • This is done only once during copulation and is accomplished by prying open the epigynum using the tibial apophysis as a lever.
  • This species can be distinguished from its close relative Thomisus zyuzini by its long ventral tibial apophysis and retrolateral tibial apophysis, the arrangement of the basal tibia tubercle on the male palp, and the circular intromittent orifice, which is oriented anteriad in the epigynum.
  • After the palp and epigynum are engaged, the male will expand his hematodocha, causing his embolus to enter the female copulatory duct.
  • Diagnostic features include: the base of the epigynum in female Plato species having a median projection; the cymbium having distal or mesal groves; and the underside of the male conductor having a curved apophysis.
  • Unlike the rest of Araneidae, the spiders of the American genus Metepeira are noted for their unique light eye region, white median line on their sternum, relative length of the leg segments, small male palpus (appendages of chelicerates), and the weakly sclerotized (hardened) epigynum in females.
  • These include: wrinkled booklung covers, epigynum with a pair of anterior apodemes, small copulatory openings that are concealed beneath lateral plates, and terminal apophysis that is fused to the embolus.
