  • Reaction of diphenylacetylene with tetraphenylcyclopentadienone results in the formation of hexaphenylbenzene in a Diels–Alder reaction.
  • It is prepared by heating tetraphenylcyclopentadienone and diphenylacetylene in benzophenone or other high-temperature solvent.
  • Trimethylsilylacetylene is also used to synthesize diphenylacetylene derivatives in a one-pot Sonogashira coupling, in which the phenylacetylene derivative reacts with a second aryl halide after in-situ deprotection.
